Granite Countertops—Spotlight On Chiseled Edge

While there are number of edges available for countertops, in this blog, I wanted to spotlight the chiseled edge. These days, there are a variety of standard edges available for countertops including a polished edge, bevel edge, half bullnose, full bullnose, small ogee, large ogee and the chiseled edge. While the eased edge is still the most popular edge, the chiseled edge has a distinct look and is often overlooked by consumers. It feels rough to the touch and has an irregular, coarse finish. It is often used by those consumers looking to achieve a rustic look, or to go with a more rustic decorating option.

Let’s take a look at a few chiseled edges…

I haven’t seen the chiseled edge used too much in the bathroom, but it really looks nice in this one and pulls the look all together.

I really like the chiseled edge on this granite island. It goes really well with the stone around the stove and brings the rustic look together.

Here’s another island that incorporate a chiseled edge. Again-it goes nicely with the design of the whole kitchen.

This outdoor kitchen also incorporates a chiseled edge, which goes great with the stone and the great outdoors.

Add An Interesting Aspect To Your Countertop Project With A Double Laminated Edge…

When it comes to countertops, customers have a lot of options for material and colors. When those options are nailed down, there more choices to be made in regards to edge styles, backsplash and other accessories, such as sinks and faucets. In this blog, I wanted to talk about edge styles, specifically a double-laminated edge. While most customers tend to choose from our standard edge options, which include our eased, bevel, half bullnose, full bullnose, and ogee styles, there are other customized edge options available, including a double-laminated edge style. The double-laminated edge is a fairly popular choice because it gives a thicker appearance, adds dimension, and gives an interesting aspect to the countertop.

Let’s take a look at a few pictures I recently snapped in our shop area…

Notice the thicker edge on this piece. Granite, “quartz” and other natural stone slabs typically come in either 2 cm, or 3 cm thickness. To achieve a thicker look, we double laminate the edge, meaning we cut and polish extra material, to glue along the edges during the fabrication process.

Add A Decorative Edge To Compliment Your Granite Countertop…

While selecting a color for your granite countertop is important and can make a big impact on the overall look of a room, some consumers don’t always realize that choosing an edge detail can also affect the look you are trying to achieve. While a standard eased edge is a popular choice for home owners, adding a decorative edge will often compliment your stone and the room.

Let’s take a look a few ideas for decorative edge options…

Add Dimension To Your Granite Countertop With Double Laminated Edge…

When it comes to countertops, customers have a variety of edge options to choose from such as an eased, bevel, half bullnose, full bullnose,  or an ogee edge. While most customers tend to choose from our standard edge options, there are other options available, as well. From time to time, we have customers that are interested in a more customized edge, including a double laminated edge option, which gives the countertop a thicker appearance and adds some dimension.  Granite and other natural stone slabs typically come in either 2 cm, or 3 cm thickness, so to achieve a thicker look, we would double laminate the edge. The process includes cutting and polishing extra material, which is then glued during the fabrication process to the perimeter edge of the top.

While a double laminated edge offers a nice look, a noticeable seam is often present, depending on the color of the material. It is also more expensive  than standard edge options because the process not only requires more material, but also requires more labor to produce.

Let’s take a look at  a job we recently fabricated in Golden Queen granite…
